The Skeggs Family websiteSo, I’m loving WordPress so much that I’m loading it up on my web host’s server and porting all of this site to:

http://theskeggsfamily.com

The look and feel will be slightly different but overall, I’m really looking forward to learning more about all the great things that can be done on the WordPress platform. In my opinion, it’s really, really, awesome.

Since this account is free, I probably won’t shut it down anytime soon. So, if you’ve landed here, head on over to the new site and tell me what you think.

Unfortunately, we ended up on the losing end of the baseball game last night with a final score of 4-3. All in all however, the Davis Falcons played some good baseball. Stephen Skeggs made the starting line-up playing Left Field. He was one of two 6th graders that made the starting line-up and he ended up playing the entire game both offensively and defensively. Stephen made 4 plate appearances. He walked in the first two appearances and ended up going 0 for 2 on the night with a 6-3 ground out and a strike-out in his last at bat. He was however, the first base-runner of the season and scored the first run or the season after his walk in the second inning. (He batted in the 6 hole by the way). Honestly, I was mighty impressed with his aggressiveness; he got up there swinging early in each at bat. He’s never seen pitching like he saw tonight and considering that the competing pitchers were probably two years older than him, I feel like he did well at the plate.

Defensively, he didn’t see a lot of action although he chased down a gapper to Left Center Field and fired the ball from the fence right into the cut-off man’s glove.

I’m really glad he’s getting to get out there and compete against guys with more baseball experience and the ability to blow the ball by him. It will make him a better ball player.

We’re going to attempt our “official” season opener again this weekend when we are supposed to have 70 degree weather. We play on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Park which is north of Gainesville. Come on out and support us if you aren’t busy.

Pre-game pics

Here are a couple of pics before tonight’s game.

Fun in the snow

Britta in the snowThe kids have been so excited all afternoon. We went out and looked at some houses this afternoon and they were practically bouncing off the walls. Here is a picture of Britta out playing in the snow. Well, I guess it’s more of a pose than her playing. Anyway, the kids are hoping that school will be closed tomorrow. We’ll see…

Today we celebrated Ginger’s mother’s birthday. Here is a picture of her with the gift we gave her.

Ginger riding GideonMost of you know that Brittanie has been taking horse back riding lessons for a couple of years now. So, we leased a horse for Brittanie for a few months with the idea of being able to go and ride several times per week so that she can practice a little bit. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work out where we went enough outside of lessons to feel like we were getting our money’s worth.¬†Well, Ginger loves horses too and has since she was a little girl and with that in mind Brittanie’s instructor suggested that we stop the lease and put that money toward lessons for Ginger. It’s basically a wash, so that’s what we did.

I’ve included a picture from Ginger’s first lesson here. We went a couple of weeks ago and bot her all the equipment she needs like boots, chaps, and a helmet. I’ll post again soon with a picture of her all dressed up and ready to ride.

Davis Falcons LogoWell, the first week of practice is already behind the C.W. Davis Falcons. As is typically the case, there were plenty of discoveries made this week as it relates to “areas for improvement”. But, that’s what practice is for. All in all, considering the cold weather and windy conditions, the team looked good.

Our season opener is next Saturday, February 28, 2009, 3:00 p.m. at Laurel Park in Gainesville. If you aren’t busy, put it on your calendar and come out and support the team.

Stephen is doing well so far. He’s been working out in Left Field for the most part and is having a lot of fun.
